Katarina started skating at the age of five old. Her talent soon began to emerge and she was invited to Karl-Marx-Stadt's school for special needs. The school where she was enrolled she met her teacher Jutta Muler. Witt was second place at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. It was her first appearance. Since that time her elegance and grace captured the eye of all. Her dominance began in the sport. Olympic triumph Katarina Wit was awarded gold medals in women's ice skating during the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after an intensely competitive contest. In a more competitive competition, afterward, she took home the gold medal. Free skates were not a success, however her gold medal resulted from the performances she made during both compulsory figures (short program) and the compulsory figures. Witt was the first repeat winner in women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt, who had achieved success in film acting, then returned to figure skating to compete in the Lillehammer Winter Games 1994. People were captivated by her performance despite her having finished seventh. Witt received her induction to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
